DO YOUR EMPLOYEES LOOK FORWARD TO MONDAYS? Your people will look forward to Mondays when they feel energized and motivated by your workplace culture . . . when they feel appreciated and supported in their goals . . . when they feel they have a voice and a sense of the big picture. What are the key elements? You have to create a trusting environment. You also have to foster respect among employees. Above all you have to do one thing really well: Communicate, communicate. Communicate! "If you aren't fired with enthusiasm . . . you will be fired with enthusiasm." -- Vince Lombardi IT PAYS TO CREATE A VIBRANT WORKPLACE CULTURE Earlier this year the journal Canadian Business compiled a list of that nations' best workplaces in 2006. Interestingly, the editors noted "Independent analysis shows that publicly traded companies on Fortune's list of "100 Best Companies to Work For" in the United States and the Financial Times' list of best workplaces in the United Kingdom . . . consistently outperform their peers financially. Hmmm! The best workplace environments also tend to produce the best financial results? That's a connection that experts have been making at least as far back as 'In Search of Excellence" in the 1980s. It continues to surprise me that so many managers continue to consider corporate culture to be a "fuzzy" concept rather than a bread and butter issue. "Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." -- Theodore Roosevelt RAISING THE BAR ON CULTURE For more details on the process of transforming your workplace environment, you may wish to look at my eBook, Creating a Vibrant Entrepreneurial Organization: Your Competitive Advantage by visiting www.howtohaveacompetitiveadvantage.com.
