Competing in a Changing World

Let Pittsburgh "Steel Your Heart" . . . as a great place to live, work and, yes, vacation. Dr. Joanne Sujansky's recent appearance on the KDKA-TV morning show "Pittsburgh Today Live" celebrated Pittsburgh's world-class offerings. The clip is available at http://www.keygroupconsulting.com/clip6-2.htm.

SUFFERING FROM FUTURE SHOCK?
Chances are your employees are more overwhelmed by change than you suspect. When Alvin Toffler published the book "Future Shock" in 1970, the pace of modern change seemed absolutely blistering. But, in those simpler times who would have anticipated the technology explosion, the crumbling of cold war political alignments and the resulting tidal wave of increased global competition?

Look . . . we all realize that change is difficult. It breeds uncertainty and anxiety. But I recognize that change is not only necessary, its going to show up on your doorstep whether you like it or not!

While delivering keynotes to leaders on how to propel change in the organization, I typically find myself fielding questions on how employees can overcome resistance to change. Your employees can learn the secrets of navigating through change in my eBook, How to Manage Chan ge... and Master The Change Process, available at http://www.keygroupconsulting.com/veoproducts.htm. Of course, the real secret isn't trying to overcome change; the secret is to EMBRACE change.

Another valuable source of information on the topic is my book The Keys to Conquering Change: 100 Tales of Success. Also available in VHS, this book shows how real people have mastered the changes in their life. It's available at http://www.keygroupconsulting.com/veoproducts.htm.

"Change is inevitable . . . except from a vending machine."          -- Robert C. Gallagher

"YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET"
If Toffler thought that change in the '70s was extreme, what would he think about changes in the pipeline today? A recent PC Magazine cover story previewed some revolutionary new technologies that may sound like pipe dreams, but that are actually in development:

  • Computer chips so flexible, stretchable and durable they can be built into clothing, gloves, food packaging and other "soft" products. (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)
  • Super-high definition projectors that, combined with high speed Internet, would allow you to interact with people thousands of miles apart as though you were all sitting in the same room. (University of California's Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology)
  • Bacteria-sized video cameras that could be used within the human body for diagnostics, or in any other inaccessible space that conventional cameras can't reach. (University of California San Francisco)
  • Clothing that is colored "live" by digital processors, which could change patterns or colors on the spot and could even connect wirelessly to copy the pattern of someone else's clothes. (MIT's Media Lab)

So, how ready for change are you? How about your employees? "Propelling Change," our proven leadership-training program helps managers to focus on visioning skills, to understand change and to develop strategies to implement change successfully. BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS TO CHANGE
I know it isn't easy predicting the future (although that doesn't seem to stop some people from trying). However, it isn't too hard to predict what's going to happen if your employees AREN'T prepared for change ... when you see them dragging their feet and erecting barriers to change.

Another approach to learning how to manage change, which I've found very effective, is the use of individual assessments. The Personal Profile System we employ, yields powerful insights into how differing work and communication styles influence employee responses to change. You will want to see how your business can be positively influenced by reviewing our assessment products by clicking the link below. http://www.keygroupconsulting.com/veo_assessments.php.
